Te Arawa Lakes Trust: Celebrating a Century

As Te Arawa Lakes Trust mark a century, Rotorua Library is honoured to share their history through a digital timeline on our Community Pride Screen, and banners on the Second Floor.

Te Arawa Lakes Trust stands as a guardian of the 14 lakes within their rohe (tribal estate), safeguarding their wai and taonga species for generations to come. Formed in 1924, the trust board emerged from a long-standing relationship with the crown. The identity and cultural practices of Te Arawa hapū and iwi are deeply rooted in enduring relationships with their lakes and surrounding environments.
